Summer River Cruise 2014

Returning for the 4th year for an evening cruise on the Thames, we ventured upriver again from Tower Millenium Pier, with 72 members and guests on board the 'Old London'. And again we had a multinational guest list. During the evening a cheque for £3,000 was presented to the London Nautical School to purchase new sails and covers for their dinghy fleet. We disembarked at Westminster Pier after an enjoyable social evening on the river.

Summer Cruise 2013

Following the previous summer cruises upriver from Tower Bridge, this year we travelled downriver. After a day of showers and cloud, the sun made its appearance as we sailed from Tower Millenium Pier. Again members and guests comprised many nationalities making a truly international social event. The trip downriver passed the former docklands of London, the river now lined by flats and housing. We passed the National Maritime Museum, the O2 Arena, The Trafalgar Inn and the Prospect of Whitby pub. Proceeding through the Thames Barrier, we turned at Tate & Lyles berth and returned upriver, passing the landmarks of central London to Westminster and disembarked at Embankment Pier.

Summer Social 2012

Having graduated to a ‘big river’ cruise last year, this year’s Summer Social was to repeat the voyage, this time with a bigger boat!. On one of the few days where the sun was blazing down on London, we boarded the “Hurlingham” at Tower Pier; members and guests comprising 10 nationalities, demonstrating the international mix in the London Branch. Against the ebb tide we made our way leisurely upriver to Chiswick Reach, skilfully avoiding the many rowing eights out training on the upper reaches. The “Spirit of Chartwell” which featured as the Royal Barge in the recent Jubilee Pageant was suitably ‘toasted’ as we passed by. At Chiswick, we turned and all too quickly reached Embankment Pier to disembark..

Summer Social 2011

After successfully negotiating a canal trip last year, we decided to venture onto the big river for this year's social event. While the weather during the day was "stormy", the rain clouds had passed over by the time we boarded the river cruiser "Old London" at Tower Pier, and we enjoyed a fine evening cruise up river. The intention was to get as far as Kew but approaching Hammersmith Bridge, it was obvious the height of tide prevented the vessel passing under the arches. So we turned and cruised back downriver to Limehouse Reach, passing that well known (to those of us of a certain vintage) hostelry, the Prospect of Whitby! We then sailed back (towards the setting sun) upriver and disembarked at Embankment Pier

Summer Social 2010

Unfortunately, despite it being midsummer, the weather was more reminiscent of midwinter. - wet and windy. However, the good news was an upgrade from the open-sided "Jenny Wren" to the fully enclosed "My Fair Lady", so all members and guests enjoyed a dry (weather) evening cruise on the Regent's Canal. Leaving Camden Basin, we entered the Canal through Camden Lock and travelled along the most picturesque stretch of the Regent’s Canal, sailing past London Zoo, through Regent’s Park, and into the Maida Vale tunnel to Little Venice and Paddington Basin, and reversing the route back to Camden.
